About the Lacrosse Camp Scholarship Program
The Boiardi Foundation’s Summer Camp Program provides financial assistance to deserving students who wish to attend educational and athletic summer camps throughout the United States. Scholarship recipients are selected based on their demonstrated commitment to the values George embodied, including selfless leadership and service to the community. Like George, they must work hard both in and out of the classroom, submitting a report card and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or school official. The program provides transportation to and from camp, as well as full tuition for the camp. Past recipients have attended some of the top lacrosse camps in the Washington, DC, Baltimore, New York, Denver, and Boston areas. Applicants may be boys or girls in grades 5-12. Coaches, teachers, or prospective campers interested in submitting an application should contact Brigham Kiplinger for more information (email@example.com).
2011 Camp Program
The Boiardi Foundation’s Summer Camp Program continued to expand its reach in 2011, sending 21 outstanding young scholar-athletes to summer lacrosse camps all over the country, from the woods of New Hampshire to the Texas hill country to the Rocky Mountains.
Denver University hosted three young men from the Denver City Lax program: Khalil Scott Banks, Quayson Nathan O’Rear, and Kahseem Stevenson.
Trilogy Lacrosse Camp** in Millbrook, NY hosted six young men from four of New York City’s five boroughs: Jovan Rivera, Michael X. Aguilera, Justin Dong, Joseph Jordan, Malcolm Malik Akinje, and Kelvin Lee Sparks, Jr.
Zachary Thompson (Dallas, TX) attended former Cornell All American Max Siebald’s Maximum Lacrosse Camp at Texas Christian University near Dallas.
The Foundation also sponsored ten student-athletes at MetroLacrosse’s SummerBounce camp in New Hampshire: Rajanique White (Washington, DC), Kevin Mondy, Jr. (Dallas, TX), Jada Bonner (Denver, CO), Karla Garcia (Dallas, TX), Manuel Baez (Bronx, NY), Shelby Casas (Dallas, TX), Mike Cronin, Deyscha Smith, Linda Belcher-White, and Julia Santos (all from Boston, MA).
Karla Garcia, Shelby Casas, Mike Cronin, Manuel Baez, and Kevin Mondy, Jr. were also nominated by their peers at SummerBounce for another special opportunity. In October, they traveled to Washington, DC as Boiardi Scholars to participate in a national conference on youth sports programs. They had dinner with the Boiardis, toured the monuments in our nation’s capital, and met with members of Congress, including Rep. Dave Reichert (R-WA). They even met skateboarding legend Tony Hawk!
Karla Garcia reflected on her Washington, DC experience: “It was a dream come true. As a young Hispanic woman, I aspire to achieve above and beyond, and I thank you for giving me that boost. Lacrosse has given me so many opportunities. I promise to give my everything in pursuing and achieving my goals. I will make history.”
